Chief Commissioner of State Tax Peeyush Kumar said GST (Goods and Services Tax) returns have to be filed for financial year 2017-18 by August 31 and the chances of extending the deadline were remote. Addressing media persons on the sidelines of a seminar on GST organised by Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) here on Wednesday, Mr. Kumar said two years after GST came into force, traders continued to have doubts as the system was in transition from VAT (Value-Added Tax) to the new indirect tax structure. The GST Council had been simplifying the procedures and be interacting with the trade and industry bodies for sorting out issues, particularly the problems involving input tax credit.

Andhra Pradesh was ahead of many States in registrations and filing of the annual, quarterly and monthly returns and it had tremendous scope for improvement. Some genuine problems, which could not be solved at the local level, were being taken to the notice of GST Council through the State Finance Minister, he added. Joint Commissioner of State GST S.E. Krishna Mohan Reddy and VCCI president V. Bhaskar Rao were present. Meanwhile, it was stated in an official release that taxpayers registered for Central GST have to file returns in GSTR-9/GSTR 9-A/GSTR 9-C for FY 2017-18 by August 31. Taxpayers could approach the GST Seva Kendras for assistance.
