The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) has written to the finance ministry seeking suspension of the 28 percent GST notification on online gaming from Sunday, October 1, people in the know told CNBC-TV18.
The ministry on Saturday notified October 1 as the date to implement the amended GST law provisions for taxing e-gaming, casinos and horse racing.
The federation has asked the revenue secretary to suspend the amendment notice till all states pass their respective amendments, in line with the judgment of the Supreme Court of India, the sources said.
With 15 States yet to make changes to their State GST laws, online gaming companies registered in those states can face challenges. The sources cited AIGF as saying that the Centre’s notification could open ‘floodgates of unilateral actions in future by various states in various other aspects of GST”.
AIGF said it will be a massive challenge for the online gaming companies to operationally adapt to these large-scale changes when there is no uniformity in the statutory framework, the sources said.
