The Meghalaya Cabinet on Thursday approved the enactment of the Meghalaya Amnesty Scheme under which taxpayers can clear their dues in another extended six months.

“People who have tax dues towards the state government will be given an amnesty scheme for a period of six months to be able to pay the amount that is due, failing which, different measures, legal and different prosecutions as per law will be taken against these people who are evading taxes,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma told reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting. “But six months time will be given to them with some incentives to ensure that they are given the opportunity to pay the amount that is due to the state government,” he added.
