Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday told elected board members of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) to approach the state government for a share of the Good and Services Tax (GST) as the Union government did not have the power to sanction funds for the local body. A delegation, led by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kakde, met the minister at his office in New Delhi regarding the issue that has cropped up since the implementation of GST in 2017.
“We appraised the minister about how the financial condition of the board has been affected in the absence of the GST share and how it is going to impact the developmental projects. The minister has assured us that he will intervene in the matter and he will tell the state finance minister to resolve the matter,” PCB vice president Priyanka Shrigiri told TOI on Friday. In the last general body meeting, PCB had decided to file a petition against the state government in the Bombay High Court in this regard.
