Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Chairman GSTN (GST Network), in an interview recently, claimed that the GSTN is considering to make some changes in the way GST filing is being done at the moment. According to him, this is being done in order to simplify the process and to make the process easy for the filing authorities and individuals.

Currently, the GST Filing form is very complex and has often been criticised for the glitches. The GSTN Chairman added that the organisation is having a close look at the demands and suggestions of taxpayers and needed changes will be made accordingly. He also added that they are considering to have separate forms for different taxpayers based on their nature of business and turnover. This will help a lot of taxpayers save time.

Ajay Bhushan Pandey, who is also the CEO of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), the company which manages Aadhaar, said that use of extensive technology can help make the process simpler and more convenient. He said that a proposal of making the form completely dynamic is being discussed. He said that the main aim should be to make the process so simple so that the users do not have to seek external support to file their returns and pay taxes.

Over 45 lakh GSTR 3B filings have been made for the month of September. The number of filings for the months of July and August count to 56 lakh and 52 lakh respectively.

Talking about the numbers, Pandey said that over 56 lakh filings have been made for the month of July. That means, there are 56 lakh people who know to use the new system and how to make filings. With time, there will be more and more people coming onto the platform. He, however, added that there are some complexities which still remain and the government is proactively looking to work on them. The government has also started asking for the feedback and suggestions to improve the GST filing experience, however, simplifying the forms remains the first priority.
