The anti-evasion wing of CGST Commissionerate Ludhiana laid a trap against tax evaders allegedly involved in transportation of goods without bill and e-way bill and impounded 11 such trucks on Thursday night till Friday evening between Mandi Gobindgarh and Ladowal village, near Phillaur toll plaza.
The department has slapped tax and penalties amounting to Rs 14 lakh on these trucks which were loaded with iron and steel products without mandatory e-way bills. Sources said the department got information how a group of highway passers in association with iron and steel traders of Mandi Gobindgarh and other cities were providing a safe passage to these traders during night hours to send goods from one destination to the other and evade GST.
The action was taken to crack down against the nexus of passers and traders to check evasion of taxes. Sources said the department has several inputs and will persist with such actions in the future too to eradicate the evasion of tax or to bring the evasion to low ebb. The department is also contemplating stringent action against the manufacturers, patrons, facilitators of such clandestine supplies, they said.
