The BJP national executive hailed demonetisation as an “unprecedented success” that laid the foundations of a transparent economy and appreciated the Narendra Modi government’s role in implementing the goods and services tax, underlining that it led to ease of doing business and benefited the people.

The conclave passed a political resolution thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley for the passage and implementation of GST. The resolution also emphasised the tough stand on terrorism, welfare of farmers, peaceful solution to the Dokalam standoff with China, effective diplomatic initiatives and the government’s commitment to the backward castes.

The national executive (NE), which was described as an ‘Expanded NE’ as all party lawmakers at the Centre and in states were also invited, condemned the political violence in Kerala, Bengal and Tripura against its workers. The pledge to work for cleanliness, poverty eradication, terror-free India, ending casteism and communalism, fighting corruption was also a part of the resolution.

The resolution maintained demonetization “broke the backbone of the black market as well as black money hoarders”. The impetus to digital transactions and direct benefit transfer in welfare schemes facilitated transparency and increased the taxpayer base as well, the resolution said. The party accepted that GST has caused some difficulties but stated the government was “consistently resolving” them. It also said GST was another example of cooperative federalism, especially in the way the GST council had been empowered.

The resolution said the NDA government was pursuing zero tolerance towards terrorism and was also working on a development agenda in Jammu and Kashmir to benefit the region — `80,000-crore package, two AIIMS, an IIM, an IIT, five medical colleges will come up in the state.

The national executive congratulated the NDA government for its handling of the Dokalam issue. “The peaceful resolution of the Dokalam standoff through diplomatic channels is a sign of mature politics and diplomatic victory for the government,” the resolution said.

The party also praised PM Modi for his 10-point agenda at the Brics summit to tackle global challenges unitedly. Dialogue with China at the Brics summit and ensuring that terrorism was at the forefront during discussions at the meet were credited to Modi. The resolution welcomed the assurance by PM Modi to keep ideological violence and narrow mindedness in check. The party also hailed the contribution of its ideologue Deendayal Upadhyay and Swami Vivekanand.
