Demand: Government reduces GST rate of marble-granite

Sansad Bhagirath Chaudhary has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State Anurag Thakur seeking economic relief due to the economic loss due to Covid-19. He said that Rajasthan is the largest center for marble and granite products. It is the most employable business after agriculture. Of the 33 districts, mining and production of marble and granite are being done in 23 districts. 5 million people are directly and indirectly connected to this business.

Business is stalled

Due to the lockdown of industrial activities. The GST rate on marble and granite has been 18 percent since 2017. Earlier, the rate of products was only 5 percent at the time of sales tax, due to which the potential new investment of 10 crores in the mining and processing of both products has stopped. The government should approve an economic package for the marble and granite industry. Also, the GST rate should be reduced from 18 to 5 percent.
