ACB arrests sales tax official for accepting Rs 1 lakh

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Pune arrested a sales tax official on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh. The accused identified as Ramkrishna Mane (46) a resident of BT Kavde Road works as a sales tax official at the GST office at Yerwada in Pune. The ACB officials added that the complainant’s bank account was sealed in connection to form 318 sent for his firm. He was then directed to Ramkrishna Mane to resolve the matter where he requested for his bank account to be reopened.

According to officials, Mane in a few meetings with the complainant had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1.5 lakh. The complainant however alerted the ACB and negotiated the amount to Rs. 1 lakh. Mane allegedly agreed to accept the amount at his office. The ACB laid a trap at the GST office along with the complainant and government witnesses. Mane accepted the bribe amount from the complainant, was caught red-handed and arrested. The ACB has begun further investigation to get more details on his bank accounts and other investments. The ACB has booked the accused under Prevention of Corruption Act.
